All over the world, people have fallen in love with the Finnish picture book/animated series, "Moomin." Other than its adorable set of characters and heartwarming stories, Moomin is also loved for the world it paints: an idyllic valley where sunshine falls on stretches of green grass and flower fields. The Moomin universe evokes a sense of peace and contentment, and this is what Moominvalley Park in Saitama brings to life.
The park is divided into four zones: the Cove, Moominvalley, Kokemus, and the Lonely Mountain.
Welcome to the world of Moomin! Four giant gates await you at the entrance, designed like the cover of a book. You can choose from Moomin and Snorkmaiden, Snufkin and Little My, Moominmamma with Thingumy and Bob, and Moominpappa and the Hattifatteners.
You will also find beautiful square patches of decorated wood by the entrance as well as a restaurant that specializes in fluffy pancakes.
The main attractions of the park can be found at Moominvalley, where two faithful reproductions of buildings from the books stand: Moominhouse and the Moomins' bathing hut. You can also enjoy an outdoor show at Emma's Theater or feast your eyes on the indoor attraction called "Ocean Orchestra." A portion of the Moominvalley is also dedicated to the mischievous Little My. You can snap photos with your favorite characters at the photo studio, too.
The Finnish word "Kokemus" stands for "experience." This area of the park features permanent and seasonal exhibits as well an area for workshops. Two beautifully-designed cafes/restaurants can also be found here. Don't miss the gift shop stocked with Moomin goods!
Outdoor lovers will enjoy the Lonely Mountain: an area for both adventure and reverie. Here, you can find a beautiful lighthouse, explore a whimsical jungle gym or zip line above Lake Miyazawa.
